Japanese Quince
Chaenomeles japonica is a deciduous shrub that blooms in late winter to early spring, providing an early source of nectar and pollen for honeybees when few other flowers are available. Peak bloom occurs over 2-3 weeks in temperate climates, attracting foraging bees to its scarlet flowers. Its thorny branches offer protection from browsing animals, though regular pruning is needed to control size and shape.
