Kentucky Coffeetree

Gymnocladus dioicus
In the United States: Native · also called American coffee berry, Kentucky mahogany

Honeybees visit Kentucky coffeetree primarily for its pollen from the small, greenish-white flowers in late spring panicles, with limited nectar available. Peak bloom occurs in May to June in temperate climates, providing a brief but reliable early-season forage source. As a dioecious species, both male and female trees should be planted for seed production, though bees forage on flowers of either sex; the tree tolerates urban conditions and drought but may require staking in windy sites due to its coarse branching.
