Western Violet

Viola adunca
In the United States: Native · also called Hookedspur violet, Early blue violet, Western dog violet

Honeybees visit western violet for its early-season nectar and abundant pollen, drawn by purple nectar guides on the lower petals. Peak bloom occurs from late spring through midsummer, providing forage when few other plants are flowering. This low-growing species forms mats via rhizomes and tolerates light foot traffic but may need protection from heavy browsing in open areas.
